- Undergraduate Degree in Engineering Geophysics from Queen's University in 1989. Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) for 25 years. Naval career highlights include: Bridge Watchkeeper, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Officer, Fleet Oceanographer, and Assistant Professor at the RMC. Possess Significant multinational (NATO) and USN collaboration experience in environmental operations. Awarded the Chief Of Maritime Staff (CMS) Award for advancing and coordinating Tactical Oceanography and Web Services.
- Awarded two post-graduate competition scholarships (MSc, PhD) from the RMC. MSc field was Acoustics and Ocean Modelling - awarded the George L. Pickard Prize in Oceanography for quality of work and best overall thesis. PhD awarded within the Physics Department in Dynamic Oceanographic Modelling. Leveraged advanced multi-processing programming (MPI) using several models at the HPVCL Kingston: POM, POP and NEMO. Principle region of research was North East Pacific Ocean modelling. Served within the Physics Department as an Assistant Professor until departing in 2015. Significant and varied programming experience is described further.
- Joined Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in the fall of 2017 in the Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance Division (WQMSD) of the Water Science and Technology Branch (WSTB) to help re-organize and develop a modern digital environmental framework (CLOUD) for water quality data management in Canada. As a member of the National Coordination and Integration Section (NCIS) within the WQMSD (CCIW, Burlington, On), most recently involved in constructing and publishing an RFP to finally permit the technical requirements of WQMSD to be implemented in the envisioned new CLOUD based SaaS framework.
